The Big Debate

Monday, 23 November 2009

Regular readers will know that I run the Strathclyde Labour Club and tonight we will be having a debate with our em friends in the SNP asking :

Would an Independent Scotland be a more Socialist Scotland?

Speakers will be Bill Kidd, Joan McAlpine from Go Lassie Go (and some newspaper apparently...) Richard Leonard from the GMB and Jim Lee from the Scottish Co-op. The event will be chaired by the Scotsmans David Maddox.

I'm looking forward to it. It's about Independence yes but really it's about values and how we achieve them. It's the debate that people care about and needless to say I am sure we will win the arguments

We will kick off at 5:30 at Strathclyde Union at 90 John St, all are welcome!

What a silly question. The answer is surely obvious.

It would be interesting to see what arguments can be made against - and how you could fit those in with your strategy of trying to scare people into voting Labour to keep the Tories out.

After all you are not expecting the Tories to win in Scotland are you?

Maddox chairing a debate on independence?! That's like getting a piranha to chair a debate on the merits of vegetarianism.

Sounds potentially enlightening!

Alas, won't be able to attend.

Chris

Nationalist meet conspiracy theory, conspiracy theory meet Nationalist, I predict a long and happy relationship...

I certainly look forward to seeing "social democracy in action" when Scotland attains equality as a normal independent partner within the interdependent community of nations.

Pity's sake Yousuf, is a sense-of-humour-bypass now a pre-requisite for Labour membership?
